PROJECT OBJECTIVE

Improve circulation, increase efficiency, and enhance security to the existing Juvenile Service Center intake and holding areas.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Ravatt Albrecht & Associates designed this 5,540 sq. ft. intake expansion and holding room remodel to meet the demands of the growing San Luis Obispo Juvenile Services Center. This project was the assimilation of a master plan design and state grant studies, led by Ravatt Albrecht & Associates, to ultimately be funded by the County of San Luis Obispo.

The work included adding a sallyport secure entry and intake/release area with a secure public lobby, interview rooms, a medical exam room, and a separate corridor for access to the adjacent, existing courtroom (also designed by Ravatt Albrecht & Associates). The resulting vacated Intake Lobby/Interview rooms were remodeled into three new intake holding rooms, including an ADA compliant holding room. In addition, staff parking, perimeter fencing, and a new electronic security system with integrated CCTV, intercom, remote door controls, and an expanded duress alarm system were incorporated into the design.

The result is an updated, functional facility that meets the facility’s operational demands and site constraints, including adjacent wetlands that required careful investigation and planning.
