RA & Associates has struck Gold!

Ravatt Albrecht & Associates has struck Gold! As of early August this year, RA received word from the US Green Building Council stating that recently renovated Bachelor Enlisted Quarters B-895 at Naval Air Station Lemoore received LEED Gold certification.

Ravatt Albrecht & Associates, under contract with Stronghold Engineering, Inc. partnered with NAVFAC, the user group, and the Naval Air Station community to provide architecture, engineering, project management, quality control, and LEED coordination for the renovation and modernization of a $7.5M, 3-story, 63,277 SF, Bachelor Enlisted Quarters (BEQ) at Naval Air Station Lemoore. Designed to provide new and refurbished housing for the Airmen and Sailors of the US Navy, this project renovated 130 2-bedroom units into 66 2-bedroom apartment units with a shared kitchen and bath. The renovation of the building was constructed using 32% recycled content, 24% regional materials, and 100% FSC Certified Wood. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were upgraded to provide for a 28% improvement in energy efficiency. A Solar Hot Water System was installed to help mitigate the hot water energy demands on the building. This BEQ, Building B-895 at Naval Air Station Lemoore, was the first to make these upgrades as well as met all United Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Department of Defense (DoD) Minimum Antiterrorism Standards, Base Exterior Architectural Plan (BEAP) requirements, and all Navy requirements.

Led by A/E Project Manager Paul Reinhardt, AIA, LEED AP and Project Manager Andrew Goodwin, LEED AP, this modernization project has set a precedent for Naval Air Station Lemoore as a facility with a higher quality of life. The Design Build team completed the building in January of this year, becoming the first BEQ at Naval Air Station Lemoore to make these upgrades. It has also become a premier example of a successful LEED Gold Certified BEQ for the base.

“The LEED process for this building was very rewarding, and it gave our LEED Design Team the opportunity to educate many of the project participants on both sides of the table”, commented LEED AP Andrew Goodwin. BEQ B-895 is just another example in a series of LEED designed buildings that has pushed the envelope.
